Of the 6087 species of mammals listed in the Mammal Species of the World (MSW3) database, 671 were originally on this list (October 3, 2007). The majority of those were completed but then more were found via User:Ucucha/List of mammals and so now we have 447 species left to cover plus several higher taxa.
