Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize articles related to ice hockey. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will aim to help and focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list there.

This WikiProject aims primarily to organize and standardize the efforts of those working on ice-hockey-related articles.

Project organization

If you are interested in becoming a member of WikiProject Ice Hockey, please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Participant.

The assessment department focuses on assessing the quality of project-supported articles. The resulting article ratings are used within the project to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work, and are also expected to play a role in the WP:1.0 program. The assessment is done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{Ice hockey}} project banner. This causes the articles to be placed in a set of categories that serves as the basis for an automatically generated worklist.

Sources of information

  • Sports Illustrated Vault All back-issues of Sports Illustrated, online
  • Backcheck: A Hockey Retrospective Historical hockey articles preserved by the Canadian National Archives
  • Elite Hockey Prospects Up-to-date stats and information, excellent for European players
  • Lots of international stats
  • European Hockey Lots of international stats (no longer updated however)
  • Hockey Archives - International ice hockey website with tables and results (in French) Lots of tables & results from Europe
  • The Internet Hockey Database Lots of stats at all levels of North American hockey, with some coverage of international league play. This is the go-to site to which we tend to link for player stats.
  • Primarily stats
  • Hockey Draft Central Detailed information about hockey drafts and players selected. Information about all players drafted from 1963-1984
  • The Goaltender Home Page Very detailed information about goalies since 1994
  • Legends of Hockey site Search for players by team, position, place of birth, or points. Affiliated with the Hockey Hall of Fame. Stats include Jr.B and Jr.C years too. Note: While this site is useful, it has lots of errors, including the dates when players were inducted, the years that trophies were awarded, and the proper first names of players.
  • The Hockey News has up-to-the-minute news updates about all information pertaining to the NHL. The Hockey News magazine has been published for 60 years and is recognized in both in the industry and with fans as “The Bible of Hockey”
