Waṇētsī (Pashto: وڼېڅي‎), also called Tarīnō (Pashto: ترينو‎), Chalgarī (Pashto: څلګريtsalgarī), or Waneci, is a Pashto dialect which is spoken by a small population of Tareen tribes in Pakistan and Afghanistan, primarily in Harnai and Sinjawi area east of Quetta, northern Balochistan, Pakistan. Wanetsi has some similarities with the Pamir language of Munji, which is spoken in the southern part of Badakhshan Province, northeastern Afghanistan.[3]

Although usually considered a Pashto dialect, the prevailing view of modern scholars is that Wanetsi may be considered a separate language, which branched off from modern Pashto in the early Middle Iranian stage before some of the characteristics of Pashto had been fully developed. Prods Oktor Skjærvø states:

The Pashto area split into two dialect groups at a pre-literary period, represented today on the one hand by all the dialects of modern Pashto and on the other by Waneci and by archaic remains in other southeast dialects.[4]

Now Wanetsi is getting more and more influenced by standard Pashto. There are also dialectal divisions within Wanetsi, although the variation between them is very small.
