Project banner

The WikiProject China project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner. The full syntax is as follows:

{{WikiProject China
<!-- Portal specific tags -->
|group-portal1=Portal Name 1
|group-portal2=(Portal Name 2)
|group-portal3=(Portal Name 3)
|group-portal4=(Portal Name 4)
|group-portal5=(Portal Name 5)
|group-portal-picture1=Portal selected picture name 1
|group-portal-picture2=(Portal selected picture name 2)
|group-portal-picture3=(Portal selected picture name 3)
|group-portal-picture4=(Portal selected picture name 4)
|group-portal-picture5=(Portal selected picture name 5)
<!-- Project and task force specific -->
|entertainment= <!-- or |music= -->

General parameters

  • class – valid values are listed in the custom class mask. See the project's quality scale for details.
  • importance – valid values are: top, high, mid, low, na (case-insensitive). See the project's importance scale for details.
  • attention – set |attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention; this should be used sparingly.
  • image-needed – set |image-needed=yes if the article needs pictures, otherwise remove this line.
  • map-needed – set |map-needed=yes if the article needs a map, otherwise remove this line.
  • collaboration-candidate – "yes" if the article is currently a candidate for the project's Collaboration of the week.
  • past-collaboration – week of <date> the article was previously a Collaboration of the week, the dash-separated dates of the collaboration period; must be left blank otherwise.
  • failed-collaboration – <date> the article was nominated for the Collaboration of the week, but failed to quality; must be left blank otherwise.
  • orphan – set |orphan=yes if the article is not currently supported by an Chinese WikiProject.
  • assess-date - Date last assessed. Example: assess-date=
  • peer-review – "yes" if the article is currently listed on the project's peer review department.
  • old-peer-review – "yes" if the article was previously listed on the project's peer review department.
  • auto – This parameter is for the use of bots and indicates that the article has been automatically rated:
    • |auto=length – based on the length of the article
    • |auto=inherit – because one or more other projects use this class
    • |auto=yes (or |auto=stub), in conjunction with |class=stub – as Stub-Class because it uses a stub template
  • category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.
  • listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for Yu Guan, use |listas=Guan, Yu so that the talk page will show up in the G's and not the Y's of the various assessment and administrative categories). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter. For more information about this, please see Wikipedia:Categorization of people#Ordering names in a category.
It is not required if another WikiProject template on the same page has its own |listas= set, since it not only affects categories used by the banner in which it is set, but it also affects the sortkey of all other banners and templates.
  • small – set |small=yes to display a small version of the template aligned along the right side of the page (as opposed to at the top). This parameter does not work as expected if the banner template is enclosed in WikiProject banner shell or any of its redirects.

Portal specific

  • portal – if the article is used in the selected article queue of the China Portal, the subpage number of its entry.
  • portal-picture – if the image is used in the selected picture queue of the China Portal, the subpage number of its entry.
  • portaldykdate – Date on which the article was displayed on the DYK section of the China portal. Format: Month day, Year.
  • group-portal(1-5): Can list selected articles of up to 5 portals
  • group-portal-list(1-5): Can list selected lists of up to 5 portals
  • group-portal-picture(1-5): Can list selected pictures of up to 5 portals

Project and task force specific

To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.
