Taito Corporation is a Japanese video game developer and publisher that was founded in 1953, and is currently located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. The company was purchased by Square Enix in 2005 for ¥45.16 billion (or US $409.1 million), becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of the company. Taito is most famous for creating the arcade game Space Invaders in 1978, which grossed over 6 million yen worth of quarters and became one of the most well-known and influential video games of all time. Other games created by the company include Bubble Bobble, Darius, Qix, Arkanoid, Elevator Action and The Legend of Kage. Today, Taito currently produces video games for mobile phone platforms and Facebook as well as maintaining a chain of arcade game centers in Japan, titled Taito Station or Game Taito Station.
