1. FC Magdeburg

1. FC Magdeburg is a football club from the city of Magdeburg, which was founded on 22 December 1965 from the football branch of the sports club, SC Magdeburg. The colours of the club, which has 1,600 members, are blue and white.

FCM played from 1960 to 1965 and 1966 to 1991 in the highest division of the East German football league, the DDR-Oberliga. Magdeburg were champions three times and FDGB-Pokal cup winners seven times. The greatest success in the club's history came in 1974 when they became the only East German club to win an European competition, the European Cup Winner's Cup. After the Wende, Magdeburg failed to make the jump to professional football and have played since then in the third or fourth division.
