The Backstreet Boys (sometimes referred to as BSB) are an American vocal group, formed in Orlando, Florida in 1993. The group consists of A. J. McLean, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, Nick Carter, and Kevin Richardson. They rose to fame with their debut international album, Backstreet Boys (1996), and to world superstardom with their album Millennium (1999) and its follow-up album, Black & Blue (2000).

After a two-year hiatus, they regrouped and released their comeback album Never Gone (2005). Richardson left the group in 2006, several months after the conclusion of the Never Gone tour to pursue other interests. The group then recorded and released two albums as a four-piece: Unbreakable (2007) and This Is Us (2009).

In 2011, the group co-headlined the NKOTBSB Tour with New Kids on the Block, and in 2012 Richardson rejoined them right after they finished the tour. As of July 2012, all members of the group are living together working on their new album in London.

The Backstreet Boys have sold over 130 million records worldwide, making them the best-selling boy band of all time, and one of the world's best-selling music artists. According to Billboard, they are the first group since Sade to have their first seven albums reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200.

Millennium is the third album (second in the U.S.) by American vocal group Backstreet Boys. It was a highly anticipated follow-up to both their United States debut album, and their second internationally released album. It was their first album to be released in both the U.S. and internationally in the same form, at the same time.

In the United States, it holds the record for most shipments in one year, with 11 million in 1999. It was nominated for five Grammy Awards and spawned four Top 40 singles, including the single "I Want It That Way." Three of the singles, "I Want It That Way", "Larger than Life" and "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely", became some of their most successful and remembered hits of all time, with "I Want It That Way" becoming their biggest hit to date. Millennium has since become one of the best-selling albums of all time, selling over 40 million copies worldwide.
