A women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) is a 20 overs-per-side cricket match played in a maximum of 150 minutes between two representative teams, each having WT20I status as determined by the International Cricket Council (ICC), and is played under the rules of Twenty20 cricket.[1] The first such match was held in August 2004 between England and New Zealand.[2] The India women's national cricket team played its first WT20I against England in August 2006; India won the match by eight wickets.[3] As of October 2017, India has played 73 WT20Is and has the fifth-highest number of wins (37) for any team.[4] The team was among the semi-finalists of the 2009 and 2010 ICC Women's World Twenty20 tournaments.[5][6]

Harmanpreet Kaur has made the most appearances for India with 68 matches, while Mithali Raj has captained the team on 32 occasions. The latter holds multiple records for India—most runs (1,708), highest average (37.95) and most half-centuries (10). Jhulan Goswami holds the Indian record for the highest number of wickets (50), best average (20.90) and best bowling figures in an innings (five wickets for eleven runs) in the format. Along with Priyanka Roy, Goswami is among the eleven players who have taken a five-wicket haul in women's Twenty20 Internationals.[7] Kaur holds the Indian record for the highest individual score in an innings (77) and most catches (27), while Sulakshana Naik holds the record for the most dismissals for an Indian wicket-keeper—10 catches and 21 stumpings.[8] At 16 years and 204 days, Sneha Deepthi was the youngest player to represent India in WT20Is.[9]

Since the team made its first WT20I appearance in 2006, 54 players—including four different captains—have represented India in the format. The team's highest score of 163 runs was made against Bangladesh in 2016,[10] while the lowest total came against Australia in 2011 when they were bowled out for 62 runs.[11]
