Lazar (Russian Ла́зарь; Serbian Cyrillic, Bulgarian and Macedonian Лазар, Lazar) or Llazar (Albanian: Llazar) is a male given name or a surname. This abbreviated form of Lazarus is especially common in various Slavic languages. It's also used in Albanian, Hungarian and Romanian. The name is derived from the Hebrew name אֶלְעָזָר (Elʿazar, or Eleazar), meaning "God has helped".[1]
