Lazar (Russian Ла́зарь, Lázar; Serbian, Bulgarian and Macedonian Лазар, Lazar) which is a male given name or a surname. This abbreviated form of Lazarus is especially common in various Slavic languages. The name is derived from the Hebrew name אֶלְעָזָר (Elʿazar, or Eleazar), meaning "God has helped".[1]
