Kandukur or Kandukuru is a town in Prakasam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is a municipality and the mandal headquarters of Kandukur mandal in Kandukur revenue division.[4]


Kandukuru (earlier known as Skandapuri) is located at 15°12′59″N 79°54′15″E / 15.2165°N 79.9042°E / 15.2165; 79.9042.[5] It has an average elevation of 13 metres (43 ft). kandukur road


As of 2017 India census,[6] Kandukur had a population of 1,54,000. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Kandukur has an average literacy rate of 63%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 72%, and female literacy is 55%. In Kandukuru, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.


Agriculture is the primary industry of Kandukur, and the town is a major center for tobacco trading in Andhra Pradesh.



The main transport mode is road way. APSRTC is a major bus station in Kandukur. Private transport like autos play major role in town. This town is connected by road to major destinations.National Highway 16 is 9 km distance from the town,a part of Golden Quadrilateral highway network, by passes the city.[7]


Nearest railway station is Singarayakonda.This railway station is classified as a B–category station in the Vijayawada railway division of South Central Railway zone. Singrayakonda is connected 10 km by road.


Nearest air stations are Gannavaram near Vijayawada and Renigunta near Tirupati. A new greenfield airport was approved for Ongole in February 2014.

Kandukuru is an assembly constituency in Praksam District, Andhra Pradesh. There were 1,76,773 registered voters in Kandukuru constituency for the 1999 elections. Kandukuru is part of "Nellore" parliament constituency.

The primary and secondary school education is imparted by government, aided and private schools, under the School Education Department of the state.[8][9] The medium of instruction followed by different schools are English, Telugu. There are two engineering colleges in the vicinity.
