Egyptology is about the study of Ancient Egypt and Egyptian antiquities and is a regional and thematic branch of the larger disciplines of ancient history and archaeology.

Ancient Egypt was one of the Middle Eastern cradles of civilization. Its achievements and duration, its biblical relevance, its impact on successive cultures and history, and its well documented interaction with classical historical cultures such as the Roman Empire, led to significant study by archaeologists.
