Caio Lucas Fernandes (born 19 April 1994), simply known as Caio [ˈkaj.u], is a Brazilian footballer who plays as a winger for Al Ain FC.

Career

Caio was born in Araçatuba, Brazil, and moved to Japan in 2011 at the age of seventeen. Before, he played for São Paulo FC youth teams, but he couldn't rise to professional staff, and left the club. He also tried to enter for rivals Santos FC and Palmeiras, but he was not accepted. When he was prepared to give up on football, he would be discovered by a Japanese university playing in Birigui.[1] He enrolled in Chiba Kokusai High School in Kimitsu and played football for the school club.[2] After graduating from the school, he joined the J1 League club Kashima Antlers in 2014. In his first professional season, Caio scored eight goals from the left wing as Kashima Antlers qualified for the AFC Champions League. Named the J. League's Young Player of the Year.[3]
