Asaad Abdulameer Al Eidani (Arabic: اسعد العيداني‎; born 1967) is an Iraqi politician who has been the Governor of Basra Province since August 2017.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]

Bio

Asaad Al Eidani is an Iraqi businessman and politician who has served as deputy chairman of "Al-Bilad Islamic Bank".[citation needed] He also worked as a director for five years at the Iraqi Trade Bank.[citation needed] Al Eidani participated in the 1991 Al-Sha'bani uprising and was forced to leave for Iran.[citation needed] He was then arrested by the former Iraqi intelligence regime, then he was sentenced to death.[citation needed] He then became a political prisoner for eight years between 1995 and 2002.[citation needed] After 2003 he worked within the "National De-Baathification Commission" and documented the crimes of the former regime with political prisoners.[citation needed] He is also deputy secretary-general of the "Iraqi National Congress Party".
