Ace Ventura is an American comedy film series consisting of three entries, starring Jim Carrey as the titular character, Ace Ventura, a private investigator and self-proclaimed "pet detective." The first film, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, was released in 1994 after six years of development, with a sequel, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, released in 1995. In 2009, a direct-to-video spin-off, Ace Ventura, Jr.: Pet Detective, was released. An animated series was also produced and ran for three seasons.

The first two films were widely successful and have a cult following, though the third was released to mostly negative reviews.

Bernstein had wanted to do a comedic version of Sherlock Holmes, and when watching the Stupid Pet Tricks segment on Late Night with David Letterman, got the idea for a pet detective.

Film series

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994)

Ace Ventura is hired to rescue Snowflake, the bottlenose dolphin mascot of the Miami Dolphins. Despite his best efforts to save Dan Marino, Ace is also kidnapped. When Ace finds out a murder is connected, he soon begins to suspect that disgraced football player Ray Finkle is behind it all. However, Ace can't find Finkle, until Ace discovers that Finkle has been masquerading as Lt. Lois Einhorn.

Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995)

Ace is dispatched to Africa to investigate the disappearance of a sacred white bat battling his fear of bats along the way.

Ace Ventura, Jr.: Pet Detective (2009)

Ace Ventura, Jr. (Josh Flitter) continues his father's pet detective business.

In 2017, Morgan Creek announced plans to reboot their classic films from the 1980s and 1990s as television series or movies, following the success of The Exorcist television series reboot. Several films in early stages of development include film series Young Guns, Major League, and Ace Ventura.[1]
